Vince Gilligan Shares He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the hit program coming to an end—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Viewer Reception

One could easily to get distracted by the constant speculation and online debates surrounding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's by design. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Will the creator Know the Ending of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff are not listening by fan response, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to abandon a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, one could always use the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
