Trump Invites Families of Injured National Guard Members to the White House
Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Devastating Event
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their honor.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a White House visit for the parents of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump informed the press. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Support
Mourners came together over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been working with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to assist public safety in DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“She was the type of pupil that teachers wished for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her alma mater, stated to the press. “She was caring, compassionate and always willing to support those in need.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Steps and Government Revisions
Authorities have accused a 29-year-old suspect with one count of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The event led the administration to halt refugee claims and temporarily stop providing entry permits to possessors of travel documents.
Condition of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Pam Bondi informed a news show that she planned to visit Wolfe’s family.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had courage,” the governor addressed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
