Tracking the Venezuelan-affiliated Vessel Reportedly Pursued by American Maritime Authorities

A uniquely yellow-colored residential building in the background assisted us locate the video.

We are analyzing images and video shared earlier today that purport to show the scene of a alleged car bomb blast that authorities in Russia state fatally injured a senior soldier in Moscow.

Officials in Russia confirmed that Lt Gen Fanil Sarvarov was in the vehicle that detonated and that he succumbed to his wounds. A probe is currently ongoing.

The initial step to verify the site of where the pictures originated was based on social media reports indicating the blast happened on Yasenevaya Street in the southern district of the capital city of Russia.

We used street-view imagery on digital map platforms and the local mapping service Yandex Maps to match the unique yellow colour of a nearby residential complex captured in the footage.

Identifying additional structures, lamp-posts and the road configuration verified where the pictures were taken.

We also checked that the video clips were recent and that the images had not been manipulated.
