The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
