Outrage as Renowned South African DJ Killed in Johannesburg.
A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation struggling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Police said the 40-year-old media personality was confronted by three individuals, with one opened fire on him before escaping on foot.
The purpose of the attack is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended have taken place, according to authorities.
Details of the Attack
Authorities indicated that Stock was attacked as he was exiting a premises close to the Carlton Centre.
He had been present for hours at the property managing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by unidentified individuals, it was reported.
"Authorities believe the deceased was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before escaping on foot," authorities stated.
CCTV footage reportedly captured a man with dreadlocked hair and wearing what looked like a guard's attire firing shots on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.
Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the attack.
Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were recovered from the crime scene.
Appeal for Witnesses
Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have have information to come forward.
"We know they covered significant ground after the shooting, and police have been tracking them to determine their whereabouts," added an official.
Outpouring of Grief
His family member, a close relative, expressed the relatives are devastated to understand the tragedy.
"Words fail me. I am shattered," were her words.
"We know he was a representative for countless citizens. He was a fearless commentator about issues not many people were ready to tackle. This is a tremendous loss."
She requested the community to avoid sharing graphic images from the incident, noting this was an extremely painful time, above all for Stock's young family.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that aired on a South African digital satellite entertainment channel.
Beyond his work in broadcasting, Stock was active in various commercial activities, including protective services, providing VIP protection services and managing safety for high-profile events across South Africa.

A cabinet official said he was furious and grief-stricken by Stock's killing.
